This is our second offering in our sharing section. This is a series of 25 Flash samples all revolving around the Flash preloader and Flash progress loader. We cover audio, video, images, external MP3 and JPG files, and even have a small 112 file project.

This collection is mainly for designers that are using Flash and need to load or preload their content for site visitors. It is also good for building multimedia course lectures around, great for students looking for the answers, and perfect for museums and galleries looking to create online exhibitions.

We’ve currently presented demos and full source files for each project. If there is enough interest, we’ll also publish a detailed set of tutorials to support each resource (that’s 25 tutorials).

All code is given from a designer’s point of view. No geeky solutions, just stuff that works. Our Flash designers like them (and they’re finicky little buggers)!

Note that these are AS2 (ActionScript 2.0) solutions - not AS3 solutions. This is because when you move to AS3, you lose all the really quick and easy ways to make Flash do stuff (like putting on events on buttons and onClipEvents on movie clips). AS3 makes you build classes for everything and has a somewhat complicated way of handling events.

Before all you coders out there get angry, I love AS3 and especially Flex Builder 3. It makes coding in AS3 a complete doddle (ie really easy). And I’m sure that when Thermo gets released, all the designers will love AS3 too. But until then, we’re sticking with AS2 for the run-of-the-mill, fast-as-you-please Flash development.
