-mg-1156-copy.jpgWhen the Fremantle Prison Museum wanted to showcase some rare and delicate books, they found the solution with GMG.

Once again GMG is pushing the boundaries of what is possible with multimedia in professional exhibition spaces.

The exhibition is based on the story of the Irish Fenians transported to Fremantle Prison in 1868 as the last of the convicts to Western Australia. A year later their leader, John Boyle O’Reilly escaped on a whale ship to America where he and Clan na Gael members organised the rescue of the remaining Fenians in 1876 on board the American whaler Catalpa.

Our aims were to:

  • Be an engaging exhibition that deals with the content creatively and appeals to a broad audience base (incorporating children and disabled access)
  • Design explicitly with the touring of the exhibition in mind – the software had to be sturdy with easy installation for a 5 venue interstate tour over 2 years
  • Ensure that the interactives are versatile so they may be used on site at the Prison after the tour for future displays

We delivered over 500 pages of high resolution scans in an interactive touchscreen presentation, allowing visitors to flip through digital versions of these old and delicate documents. The multimedia also included a unique liquid zoom: when people touch a page, a glowing pool of magnified material trails under their finger as they drag it around the screen.

It’s hours of educational fun!
